We are so used to having thoughts, emotions, and the physical sensations of our body, that we believe that is who we are. From our childhood we have been conditioned to identify ourselves with this bundle of quirky beliefs, fears, hang-ups, and feelings. We have psychologically inherited the out-dated patterns of our parents. Our education and upbringing has mostly reinforced our self-insecurities and fears. We have got so used to all that crap, that we forget who we truly are. Today I want to remind you that you are not your thoughts. You are not your emotions. You are not…
Unhappiness arises as a result of not being aligned with your authentic self. If you started this week feeling unhappy or fed up, I would bet that it is almost certainly because there are things/people/situations in your life which are not in line with who you truly are. When you accept into your life those things which make you unhappy, you are not being true to yourself. Fear, lack of courage, negative beliefs, a tendency to be a “people pleaser”… these are examples of the kind of patterns which prevent you from being your true authentic self. And the inner…
When I was a monk I had to live by the vow of poverty. Basically that meant I had to live with only the essential things I needed. You could say it was a vow of simplicity. As a monk I considered myself to be wealthy with the things I had… food, shelter, laughter, and divine love. That is all I needed for a happy and fulfilling life. Since I’ve been living in the outside world my life has slowly become more complicated, with possessions, technology, and relationships that aren’t always in alignment with my spirit. I’ve realised that it…
Have you noticed how important it is to start your day well? Those first moments when you wake up in the morning can determine whether or not you have a good day. This may sound a bit too simple to be true but I promise you it works! I have never ever had a bad day when I have started my day with the simple routine that makes me feel good. Conversely if I ever skipped my morning routine, or overslept and got up in a rush, then I rarely had a fantastic day. After you wake up do something…
Today, of all the things you have to do or want to do, there is one thing you should give priority… Let your unique light shine in the world. Consider that you are the only you on this Earth. You may not be perfect but you have special qualities and gifts to share, that no other person in the world can offer. If you were not alive, then the world would be incomplete… it would be missing your special, unique contribution. Today, be yourself. Share your gift. Bring your unique light to those around you. That is truly your Life Purpose.…
As you start another week I just wanted to remind you that you are strong and powerful… more than you probably realise! The negativity of other people and life events only affects you if you allow it to. Remember who you truly are. Connect with your inner power, the peace and stillness that is at the centre of your being. That stillness cannot be affected by anything. Nothing can touch you when you remember that is who you are. You are the infinite Self… unchanging, unaffected, and undying. As it is said in the Bhagavad Gita, your true essence is…
“You can’t live at all unless you can live fully now.” Living fully in the present moment has become a lost art. Today’s modern society trains and conditions us to live in the future. From early childhood we are constantly striving for some future goal, at school, at college, at work, in business. And when we reach our goals we are already looking ahead to the next rung in the ladder. We can never really enjoy our achievements because we are always thinking of the next thing. This way of living creates so much stress and unhappiness in society. It…
How do you know you have made the right decision? I have often found myself in situations where it was difficult to know what the right decision was. I have made many “mistakes” with some decisions, although I am learning that we never really make mistakes. We always learn something important from those choices, and grow into a better person as a result. But I am also learning that life can definitely be much more harmonious when we are able to make better decisions. We can avoid unnecessary friction and conflict when we make better choices. I’m sure…
Stress is one of the biggest killers of the modern world. It robs us of happiness and health. Today’s society is too focused on achieving results. From childhood we are conditioned to look ahead to our future. In education, and later in work, we live too much in the the future we are trying to get. Our natural state of happily living in the present moment gets squashed on as we grow up. You can see in very young children how happy they are in the present moment. As we get older we lose that because of the conditioning of…
Your life purpose is much simpler that you probably realise! You don’t need to stress about trying to find it or know what it is for you. Just relax, and concentrate on living in line with your values. Channel your energy into the the things that you love. Follow the call of your spirit, and do whatever makes you feel alive and energised. If you do only that, your life purpose will find you, and you’ll suddenly realise that you are already living your life purpose.
Your attitude and your perspective is what determines how you experience life. Other people subconsciously respond to the kind of attitude you project. And that in turn leads you eventually into different situations and environments. Over time you literally create your own life circumstances. If you want more peace and harmony in life, you have to start with the thoughts in your head. Look at the kind of attitude you have, the kind of thoughts you think, and the kind of energy you’re projecting into the world around you. A situation which may be negative for one person would be…
Trying to control things that cannot be controlled creates stress. We cannot have total control over external things in life, such as events or people. The only control you can truly have is over yourself and how you respond to external events. When you learn to let go of the need to control, and learn to trust in the Universe, your life becomes so much smoother and free of stress.
To achieve real, lasting change in your life, you have to start from within yourself. It’s always possible to try and treat the symptoms, but until you go to the root of the issue, you will never be able to truly resolve the external problems in your life. Our patterns of beliefs, thinking, and behaviour will continue to lead us into the same types of problems again and again. When we are able to turn our attention inward and establish a secure foundation of peace and balance within ourselves, then our life will change for the better.
What you do for a living is one of the biggest factors in determining whether or not you will be happy. Unfortunately, too many people resign themselves to a job they don’t like. They get stuck in the trap of thinking that they can sacrifice their happiness 90% of the time in order to earn enough money to be happy just 10% of the time. In reality they are just doing what they hate in order to be able to continue doing what they hate… which is crazy, isn’t it? You spend most of your life at work… if you…
If you have problems with your spouse or colleagues at work, confronting them head on isn’t always the best solution… you can’t force people to change. I’ve found that focusing on myself and nurturing my inner spiritual connection is far more effective at resolving issues with other people.
