Be True to Who You Really Are – Inspirational Quotes #47

Inspirational Quotes - Be Yourself

Today I want to share with you something that I first learned from my Guru… just be who you are.

Well I had always heard this advice in many places. But It was my Guru who showed me what that really meant. Part of his mission was to re-educate people about the true nature of God, and how to develop an intimate connection with the Divine within us.

He always taught that to be truly spiritual you have to stop pretending to be something that you are not. The Divine within you already knows who you are. She knows all your little secrets. When you approach the Divine in a false way, pretending to be some sort of ultra-spiritual holy person, She immediately steps back from you because you are not being sincere with yourself and the Divinity within.

As soon as you accept every part of yourself, including the darker aspects that you feel ashamed of, then you can go to the Divine in total openness and confidence that She knows you better than you know yourself. She doesn’t judge you for anything. She understands what it is to be a human, struggling with your needs, desires, and ego.

Let go of the fear of your dark side. Approach the Divine like a naughty child… ok you may have made some mistakes and said or done things that you are ashamed of, but your inner Divinity is full of love and understanding. She wants you to be honest with yourself and with Her.

Even now, years after I left the monastery I am still learning about what it means to be the real me. There are many ways that we can end up not being true to ourself…

  • Staying in a toxic relationship
  • Not paying attention to our intuition
  • Ignoring the call of our spirit
  • Not following our passion in doing the things we love
  • Staying stuck in a job we don’t like
  • Sacrificing our own needs in order to please others

All of these things happen because of our fear. The fear of rejection, the fear of embarrassment, the fear of not having security, the fear of not being loved. But continuing to live like that slowly eats away at your spirit. Sometimes we don’t even notice it, but we have a shadow in our heart. We are unable to express our full creative potential.

By having the courage to be the real you, you begin to fulfil your life’s purpose of expressing your uniqueness in this world.

It takes time to change those things, but the first step is not so hard, and it is the most important one… accept your mistakes, your dark secrets, and sit before your inner Divinity in total openness and honesty about yourself.

From that point of inner confidence you will be able to change the other things in your life, step-by-step, so that you are being the real you in every aspect of your life.
